Nobody knows the Emscher valley more intimately than the people who live there – so who better to tell the stories of the region than the people who lived those stories?

Every year since 2005, we have invited interested parties to take a closer look at the Emscher valley. There are places you’d never find otherwise except by chance ­– hidden delights best appreciated from a fresh perspective.

Every year, the route of the tour is determined on the basis of selected themes. Past themes have included `Cultures of the Emscher Valley`, `Culture and Education`, `New Living` and `The Changing Landscape`.

The Emscher tour aims to give photographers wishing to participate in the `Emscher Zukunft` photography project an impression of the diversity for which the region is known. The date of the next tour will be announced well in advance.
