Photoproject-Dialog

Exhibitions and publications are visual expressions of the photographic treatment of the region’s transformation. The exchange on the subject of the Emscher valley development can be extrapolated well beyond the immediate region: the circumstances apply to countless regions around the world. The long-term nature of the photography project means that to remain influential and continue to capture the imagination, it must evolve and keep pace with the times.

Forums serve to determine the content of the project and drive its progress. They stimulate new themes as well as contemporary photographic work; equally, they reflect the prevailing photographic focus. Forums basically bring together the people who are concerned with the role of photography in change processes, and who wish to influence the direction of the photography project. In overall terms, the platform showcases the photographic proficiency of the region in an international, and not just a local, context.

Discourse is also maintained through our dialogue partners. By organising forums and festivals, a space is created in which progressive activities can develop and diverse disciplines can interact. Another approach is to incorporate and develop the possibilities offered by photography in actual planning.
