Every year, we look forward to receiving new entries with great anticipation. After all, they expose the effects of the transformation on people and reveal the ways in which photographers from around the region and across Europe perceive the river regeneration and the Emscher valley development. It is their perspectives – and the eyes of beholders – that disclose the secretive and the sinister, the familiar and the hidden, the lost and the found.
The results of the photography project are displayed in at least one exhibition every year. In recent years, we have aimed to stage exhibitions in locations around the Emscher valley that say something about the upheaval in the region. We have chosen exhibition rooms with an industrial past, now turned to new uses; alternatively, we have sought out places that symbolise both the future and the potential of the region. The images on display depict the changes now taking place. The photography project thus links the Emscher valley’s past to its present and future.
The next exhibition will take place at the Westphalian Industrial Museum Zeche Zollern in Dortmund from 29th June to 17th August 2008.
