Photoaward

Submitted photo series and concepts are presented to the jury each February. Entries are assessed according to their artistic quality and their treatment of the River Emscher regeneration and Emscher valley development. We do not look for a documentary approach; we encourage a highly associative and creative handling of the transformation taking place in the region.

The jury comprises representatives from various spheres of society, thereby reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the photography project.

The members of the jury are:

• Ulrich Carow – Ruhr Region Association, environmental director
• Prof. Dr. Katharina Liebsch – University of Frankfurt, sociology department
• Mario Lombardo – artistic director, Bureau Mario Lombardo
• Markus Schaden – Schaden publishing house for photographic and design
• Dr. Sigrid Schneider – head of the RuhrMuseum photography archive
• Dr. Jochen Stemplewski – chief executive of the Emscher Cooperative
• Wolfgang Volz – freelance photographer
